Kite Shield :

Plans w/ Digital Templates

Plans and templates

Armory collection

Description of the Project:

This Kite Shield is a perfect project for a high school student learning how to work with sheet metal, a historian who would like to display their family crest on their living room wall, a person who needs part of a costume, or a medieval enthusiast. The shield uses either 20 or 18 gauge cold rolled sheet metal and leather for the handle and straps. All manufacturing techniques, except for drilling of the holes, are as they were in medieval times. As would be done by a medieval armorer The shield is 24", and 32" tall and very comfortable to hold when strapped to your arm. The shield can be finished in countless ways and can include countless possibilities of crest, medieval emblems or designs.

These plans, part of the armory collection, include templates, material list, list of tools required, working drawings, and step by step how-to instructions for making the shield.
